Xonotic is a free first-person-shooter based on Nexuiz, and most people will agree with me when I say that Xonotic is the better game. Xonotic is much more polished and provides you with an overall better gaming experience then the original game, Nexuiz. Basically, the Nexuiz developers ditched the open-source game and moved on to create a game for the PS3. So now we have Xonotic, which is one of the best free fps games of 2013 and a great game to download today if you haven't already played it. OpenArena is based on Quake III Arena and so it is often compared to Q3A. Is OpenArena better than Quake III Arena? Most reviews on OpenArena claim that the game is in fact better, although most agree that the graphics are horrible. I haven't played much Quake III Arena so it's hard for me to give an honest opinion, but I do think OpenArena is a great game. There are many free games with outstanding graphics and OpenArena is not one of them. But still, OpenArena is a fantastic game and extremely fun to play. Red Eclipse is a free and open source FPS game that is available on Windows, Linux/BSD, and Mac OS X. Red Eclipse runs on the Cube 2 Engine and has six different game modes to keep you entertained for hours. If you like to create your own maps then you will get a kick out of this game, as you can create your own maps to play on. It can get boring playing a game with just a few maps, but at least you can create as many custom maps as you want on Red Eclipse. There are six game modes you can play ; Deathmatch, Campaign, Capture the Flag, Defend the Flag, Time-Trial and Bomber. The gameplay doesn't get boring because there are also 12 mutators that add a variety to the game modes. Teamplay mode is interesting because if there isn't enough players to make the teams even it will assign bots, which is something that most games don't do these days. Soldner: Secret Wars , or SSW is a game developed by Wings Simulations and published by JoWooD Productions in May 2004. It's a first person shooter, but you can play in third-person view as well if that's what you prefer. SSW is different from many 1st person shooter because it gives players the ability to control ground vehicles, planes, VTOLs and even helicopters. It doesn't have the best graphics, although the graphics are not horrible by any means.
