Red Eclipse is a free and open source FPS game that is available on Windows, Linux/BSD, and Mac OS X. Red Eclipse runs on the Cube 2 Engine and has six different game modes to keep you entertained for hours.

If you like to create your own maps then you will get a kick out of this game, as you can create your own maps to play on. It can get boring playing a game with just a few maps, but at least you can create as many custom maps as you want on Red Eclipse.

There are six game modes you can play; Deathmatch, Campaign, Capture the Flag, Defend the Flag, Time-Trial and Bomber. The gameplay doesn't get boring because there are also 12 mutators that add a variety to the game modes.

Teamplay mode is interesting because if there isn't enough players to make the teams even it will assign bots, which is something that most games don't do these days. Some of the other mutators are Instagib, Onslaught, Vampire and Expert. If you into the whole zombie craze then you will enjoy Onslaught, where you fight off waves of zombies. Zombie is always good too, every time you hurt other people you get more health. Expert is seriously for experts, as only head shots will damage the enemy in this game mode.

To make things more exciting, Red Eclipse allows you to add multiple mutators to extend a game mode. Basically, if you want, you can play Deathmatch with Expert and Vampire mutators. This makes gameplay interesting as you have so many combinations to choose from, so you won't get bored playing the same old game mode each time.

The Times Have Changed, What Free FPS is Dominating Steam Right Now?

What free first-person shooter game is dominating the Steam charts right now? Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
