Image
Hey there, have you heard of Modern Combat? It's a super popular series of shooter games made by Gameloft . You can play it on your Android or iOS devices and it's just as exciting as Call of Duty and Battlefield. When you play, you get to be a soldier fighting against terrorist enemies and complete different tasks as you go through multiple missions in different environments. The series includes games like Modern Combat: Sandstorm, Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, Modern Combat 5: Blackout, and Modern Combat: Versus. And let me tell you, all of these games have gotten amazing reviews from both players and critics.  Why I Think It's The Best Free FPS Game This Year... Modern Combat Versus is, hands down, one of the best mobile first-person shooter games out there. As a huge fan of the Gameloft series, I was thrilled to try out this latest installment, released more than three years after Modern Combat 5: Blackout.

The Times Have Changed, What Free FPS is Dominating Steam Right Now?

What free first-person shooter game is dominating the Steam charts right now? Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This game has been killin' it for a long time now, and it's improved tremendously since it launched in 2012.  It has over 6.2 million "very positive" reviews on Steam. It's free. It's not a pay-to-win game, and the community is f****n awesome.  Here's a quote from Steam regarding the game:  "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) expands upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 19 years ago. CS: GO features new maps, characters, weapons, and game modes, and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content " Call of Duty might be more popular, as it's huge on all platforms. But, CS:GO is a great free-to-play first-person shooter that anyone can download and play. The system requirements aren't huge like most modern games, but the better your PC the better your advantage.  Going to write a t

MechWarrior Online: A Tactical Mech-Based FPS Game

Image
MechWarrior Online is a tactical shooter featuring vehicular combat at a much slower pace than most shooters launched within the past 10 years. It's a free-to-play game on Steam where players fight in massive robot suits. The free-to-play shooter features a variety of extraterrestrial maps, where players will also have to watch out for extreme temperatures and other environmental hazards. It's much different than other games of this genre.. Maps in MechWarrior Online are fairly large, and it will be dangerous for you to travel throughout the maps aimlessly. Instead, you will have to plot your course across a field and be cautious. This is a tactical shooter, so being careful will pay off in the long run. It's not uncommon for you to get shot down by long-range fire, so it doesn't matter how careful you are, you will run into unexpected trouble often in this game. Most of your time will probably be spent in Quick Play, where you will fight battles for rewards on

PlanetSide 2 Has The Biggest Online Battles of Any Shooter

Image
PlanetSide 2 is not your typical first-person shooter, it currently holds the Guinness World Record for the largest first-person shooter battle. This online battle featured over 1,158 players at one time, and it's a record we don't expect anyone else to beat in the near future. This free-to-play online first-person shooter was developed and published by Daybreak Game Company, and they released PlanetSide 2 in late 2012. The original PlanetSide game was released back in 2003, so the sequel was long overdue. Based on the Forgelight Engine, PlanetSide 2 is capable of supporting thousands of players in a large scale map. In this game, three factions fight for territorial control over planet Auraxis. PlanetSide 2 is available on both the PlayStation 4 and PC. Metacritic gave the PC version an 84/100, while four other large review sites gave the title a 9./10. That's a 9/10 from Eurogamer, GameSpy, GamesRadar, and IGN . In 2012, IGN awarded PlanetSide 2 the "Bes

Team Fortress 2 - The Best Free FPS on Steam

Image
Team Fortress 2 is a free online fps game available on PC via Steam, and although it started out as a lean game, it is now a feature-packed game with many weapons, maps and game modes. If you can put in the hours of playing you will be heavily rewarded with upgrades, but the game is also very welcoming to newcomers. There's a reason Team Fortress 2 always makes the "best free fps games" lists across the internet. It's a first-person shooter with nine distinct classes, and they are constantly updating it with new maps, equipment, hats, and game modes. Yes, hats are a big deal in TF2. In this game you can really customize characters, and you will have the ability to collect, craft, buy and trade weapons and hats. The game features all the typical FPS game modes, as well as ones unique to the franchise. King of the Hill, Payload, Arena, Capture the Flag, Control Point and more. Tribes: Ascend Review - "Fastest" Shooting Game

Image
The pace of the game means a lot to players like me, who prefer fast-paced action over dull and boring gameplay. Yes, it is a free-to-play game and many critics claim you have to pay to win - but that argument doesn't hold since Tribes: Ascend doesn't let players buy items that you can't earn by playing.. at least not items that affect the game.  When I first heard of the game and looked it up I thought "hey, this is the perfect free Halo alternative" for PC. After downloading and playing the game I quickly found that it was much different, although I would find it hard to believe the creators of Tribes: Ascend weren't inspired by Halo.
